Isaac Newell tea towel
Isaac Newell from Strood helped pioneer football in Argentina in the late 19th Century, when he emigrated to Rosario to establish a school. Newell’s Old Boys, named after him, have won the Argentine league championship 7 times, most recently in 2013.
The club has a long history and some of the most well-known players have started their careers at the club are Lionel Messi and Mauricio Pochettino. When Marcelo Bielsa won his first title with Newell’s in 1990, he shouted ‘Newell’s Carajo!’ at the fans and the phrase has since become a rallying cry for supporters of the club.
To celebrate this under-represented Medway hero, The Hazelnut Press have produced these beautiful tea towels.
